I'm not anti-Olympics, I'm anti-taking money from the poor and giving it to rich assholes.

Honda Stays True to Efficient Driving

Also of note is that Honda has NEVER posted a quarterly loss in the history of the company and it’s been around since just after WWII – in the auto industry (or any other) this is just a staggering accomplishment.

I’m not passionate about Honda like I am about Ferraris or Porsches but it is always a joy to drive or sit in a Honda, they are just terrific cars made by terrific engineers. While you might find something that you like better it’s hard to find fault with the purchase of any Honda; they are so well built, so well thought out, so nice driving and so everything good about cars that everyone should own one at some point in their life.

If I had my druthers I’d be the owner of an Acura TSX right now – a just right sedan (I’d prefer a wagon version though).

Woot!

I’ve played golf for years but “play” has really been a loose term until about 2 years ago when I finally went from once a year duffer to a regular attempt at playing (4-6 rounds a year). This year I’m likely to get in 10-15 rounds, a number that allows a player to actually work on his game and do well enough to enjoy it.

On Saturday I crawled out of bed at 4:30am to make a 6:18am tee time to play my 8th round of the year and lo and behold I played a round worth feeling good about. I finally broke 100 for the first time ever (70-72 is typically par) and I hit some great shots, shots I’ve never been able to do.

There was the 40 footer out of a tall bunker that landed within 8 feet and had backspin on it, there was the 8 iron to a pin I couldn’t see that landed on the green and finally there was the 60 foot putt on the 18th hole that had to get over two rises and went right to left then back right. It was one of those highlight of the night shots except it was to close a round of 97 rather than to win the tournament – the high fives that went around afterwards was like a tournament closer as well.

All in all, it’s nice to finally play well enough that I can really enjoy a round and not get off my game due to the bad shots (a couple friends don’t play because they don’t play enough to shoot below 115). It gives me incentive to keep playing (and to spend money buying equipment).

Anyone want to play? (I’m always looking for playing partners)

Multi-tasking

The Autumn of the Multitaskers

I generally hate multitasking. Even my version of multitasking is only a facsimile of real multitasking because I can’t do it. I can’t watch TV and surf at the same time. When I drive I have a lot of difficulty carrying a conversation because my focus is on driving. I can’t talk on the phone and drive at the same time or perform any other task.

Multitasking is a waste of time, all is done is section off your day into small components where you create massive switching losses. I’d rather prioritize my activities and organize them into similar tasks so I can load the right mental program to perform the task.

I suppose this is my excuse for why I don’t like cleaning up in spurts – I like to do all my cleaning in a bunch, wash the dishes, wipe the countertops, mop the floors, scrub the toilet, take out the garbage, it’s all done in one organized batch rather than mixed into the rest of my day.

Do you multitask?

Stuff White People Like

White people love cottages, cabins and summer homes. They also like living on secluded islands which require long commutes to work over ferries.

Asians don’t do this kind of shit and I ain’t never seen a brown person or a black person who owns a cottage.

A bit of a fail on Google’s part today. Checking my Gmail I was served up an add for “See Thru Mini-skirts” and of course I couldn’t not look at what they were referring to. Lo and behold I was served up this page:

Among the items for sale:

I left my iPod in my pants and ended up putting it in the wash yesterday. It appears to still work except that it won’t turn off any longer and the battery icon permanently shows the charging icon. Perhaps drying it out some more will fix it or I can try to do a restore. Good thing it still works cause I don’t need another big bill after seeing my car dealership do an honest gouge into my credit card.

Wedding

A couple weeks ago my friends Percy and Tyler got married and I agreed to shoot their wedding. The results are on Flickr although the results are not final. What they look like when I’m working in Lightroom and what they look like on Flickr are quite different – Flickr “browns” them up a bit more than I like via their compression process. In Lightroom they look much more vibrant and print worthy.

These wedding photos along with the ones I took at Scott and Tina’s wedding has led to many suggestions that I pick up shooting weddings as a side business. This ain’t happening for a variety of reasons:

1. People would then have expectations. I shoot because I like to and if I’m being paid there’ll be things I get asked to do that I think are stupid or that I’m not good at.
2. I would charge a lot of money. Probably $100/hr on the wedding day and then additional charges for photo processing. I put in about 20 hours for Percy and Tyler’s wedding – would you really want to pay me $2000 for these photos? I wouldn’t.
3. I’m not that good. There are probably professionals out there who charge a couple grand who could do a better job. I only do a better job than amateurs.

In any case enjoy the photos. I’m redoing about half of them in Lightroom (a fantastic tool) to get the colour balance looking better – Flickr’s JPG compression is messing it up.

Dark Knight Shift: Why Batman Could Exist–But Not for Long: Scientific American

Went to see Dark Knight in IMAX on Saturday and WOW! It’s a great movie and IMAX just enchances so much more. The content shot in IMAX is stunning and the movie is terrific all around. If you didn’t see Dark Knight in IMAX and like the movie you should go again in IMAX. It’s stunning.
