So I went on vacation to Florida for a couple weeks. Some thoughts:

- Disney World is worth every penny and I wished I spent more than 2 days there. It’s miles better than Universal Studios and Sea World. The polish in the user experience that Disney provides exceeds that of the Apple Store. Take your kids. Or just go yourself, grownups will enjoy it more when they don’t have to take kids.

- No one in Florida seems to know how to make a good cup of coffee. Ok, maybe the fancy Italian place I went to in South Beach did but that’s about it.

- A Holiday Inn Express is just about the perfect hotel for most vacationers. I stayed at nicer and not as nice and it really hit the spot for us middle-classers. Free wi-fi and breakfast, nice accommodations and laundry machines.

- Stayed at a Hilton for the first time and they’ve got their user experience pretty down pat as well. Definitely an equal to the Hyatt and maybe better.

- My rental Subaru Forester was a surprisingly good car. Not sporty enough for me but I’d recommend it to my parents. Worth considering for anyone with 1-2 kids who doesn’t want a minivan or anyone who hauls a lot of gear.

- The awful urban planning in Florida (and the rest of the US) is disgusting and reflective of lack of personal responsibility/accountability of American society. No one wants to pay the real costs of things, they just want to paper over things and pass the issue on to their children.

- My tolerance for heat has dropped a lot in the last couple years, the 30+ degree weather put a bit of a damper on things for me.

Florida is otherwise a nice place and I had a great time. You should go when it’s cooler.
